Opportunities for Service
Community service is an important and rewarding part of being a Girl Scout. Leaders are laying the foundation for a lifetime of giving back when we help our scouts have fun with community service here in La Mesa, CA, and throughout San Diego County.

TAP - Build a bench for a school or community organization. Simple bench plan.

Feeding San Diego - volunteer opportunities for scouts age 6 and up.

Ronald McDonald House - volunteer to work at Ronald McDonald House, serving a meal or collect items for their wishlist.

San Diego Food Bank - volunteer opportunities for scouts age 11 and up.

San Diego Rescue Mission - volunteer time or hold a drive for their wish list of most needed items.

San Diego Humane Society - make cat toys and donate animal food. Events calendar can help you find a lecture or opportunity for your troop.

Project Wildlife - ongoing programs and wishlist items

Color a Smile - easy to follow instruction for coloring pictures. Great for younger troops.

Mission Trails Regional Park - check events calendar for ongoing restoration projects and nature walks.

Tecolote Canyon Natural Park and Nature Center - Park Rangers lead canyon clean ups each Saturday. Pull weeds and invasive species, and dispose of trash.

Wild Willow Farm - Groups of 5 or fewer can volunteer. 6 or more book a tour or program.

San Diego River Park Foundation - regular calendar of events. Check with organizers for age recommendations.

Surfrider Foundation - beach clean ups and education for reduction of plastics.

Operation Gratitude - various opportunities from collecting Halloween candy to making paracord bracelets.

Operation Quiet Comfort - projects for all levels of troops to participate sending items to wounded service people.

The Princess Project - older scouts can get involved with this organization in a number of ways including organizing a dress collection drive.

Say San Diego - number out opportunities for scouts to volunteer contact to ask how your troop or scout can volunteer as many opportunities can be created for your talents/interests. Holiday Hopes & Back to School drives offer seasonal opportunities. Older scouts can volunteer as after school tutors.

Penny Pines Reforestation Program - help plant trees in California's forests.
