New Business

  • Summer Campground take over - vote on campground. APPROVED

    • Fiesta Island Youth Camp June 2-4 (Alex call to reserve dates)

  • How to Incorporate Friendsgiving into your Girl Scout year at all levels. See steps for age-level progression below.

  • LMSU Communications

    • Current - Facebook, LMSU Website, direct emails. LMSU website doesn't show up in Google search results for "La Mesa Girl Scouts" or any similar searches. This is because it is a free Wix site and has the domain: girlscoutslamesa.wixsite.com/.

    • Proposed improvements:

      • Purchase domain for the service unit.

      • Cost: $192.00, at the price of $16.00 per month. We'd still be using Wix as our host, but having a custom URL would allow search engines to index the site and we'd show up higher in the search results.

      • Domain name options: GirlsScoutsLaMesa.com/org

      • APPROVED

Girl Scout Friendsgiving Progression

Make every year different. Give girls more opportunities to responsibility.

The more girls own an event the more they get out of it.

Daisy (Badges: Yellow Petal Friendly & Helpful; Outdoor: Buddy Camper)

  • Planning - talk to the girls about traditional Thanksgiving foods - what they like and don’t like.

  • If you have a large troop consider doing 2 different recipes for each dish. Then compare what was different and the same.

  • Potluck - each girl helps prepare her dish at home.

  • Parents stay for the event.

  • Have girls choose a craft.

  • Incorporate a community service activity such as: Make holiday cards for seniors

Brownies (Badges: Snacks, Manners ret. Make it Eat it ret.; Outdoor Cabin Camper)

  • Potluck - each girl helps shop for and prepare a dish at home.

  • As a troop, girls prepare a simple appetizer, side dish and dessert.

  • Parents stay.

  • Consider asking grandparents to join as guests to incorporate Playing the Past.

  • Incorporate a community service activity such as: make ornaments for Meals on Wheels

Juniors (Badges: Simple Meals, Social Butterfly, Traditional Foods; Outdoor: EcoCamper, Outdoor Cook ret.)

  • Girls are divided into cooking patrols (teams).

  • Ingredients are bought and brought by girls.

  • Each patrol makes 1-3 dishes.

  • Incorporate a community service activity such as: make care packages.

Cadettes (Badges: New Cuisines, Eating for You; Outdoor: Primitive Camper, Outdoor Cook ret.)

  • Troop chooses a historical, international or regional cuisine to use as a theme for dinner.

  • Each patrol chooses an entry, side and dessert.

  • Patrols shop for ingredients.

  • Patrols make their dishes.

  • Parents come to eat at meal time.

  • Incorporate a community service activity such as: collect items for refugees.

Seniors & Ambassadors (Badges: Locavore, Dinner Party)

  • Girls design their own recipes or adjust quantities for a large group.

  • Troop shops and prepares all dishes from local resources.
