CSA volunteer opportunity: Daisy Day!

Attention Girl Scout leaders: We're looking for enthusiastic Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors to serve as youth leaders for the LMSU 2023 Daisy Day!

Girl Scouts can sign up to help with this form: https://forms.gle/wgCCdcuceSK5HhSh7. The link includes descriptions of each volunteer role. Volunteers are welcome to help with more than one task. We will need as many YLT members to attend as day-of volunteers as possible!

Daisy Day details: Date: January 14, 2023 Time: 9 AM to 3:30 PM (6.5 service hours!) Location: GS Balboa Campus, Leadership Center

Theme: Robotics

Cost: Free for volunteers

Daisy Day organizers: La Mesa Girl Scout Service Unit leaders Madeline McCurry-Schmidt and Alexandra Swift. Please send any questions to GirlScouts5117@gmail.com

Youth Leader Roles:

Guest speaker research (2-3 hour commitment):

Description: Correspond with Madeline (Leader of Troop 5117) as you work together to research local robotics experts who could potentially serve as guest speakers on the morning of Jan. 14. The ideal speaker would be female-identifying and studying/working in a robotics program at UC San Diego, SDSU or a nearby institute. Once YLT volunteers identify a short list of potential speakers, they will submit the list to Madeline, who will reach out to inquire about the speaker’s availability.

Deadline: End of November

Snack budgeting and selection (1-2 hour commitment):

Description: We will have a small budget for snacks at the event, and we will provide a morning snack to attendees. YLT will work with Daisy Day organizers to determine the snack budget and price appropriate snacks. Ideal snacks will be peanut/nut-free. Options must include dairy-free and gluten-free snacks. Once research is done, YLT volunteers should email Madeline with the list of snacks, where to buy them, and how much they will cost.

Deadline: End of December

On-site leadership (Jan. 14 - full day commitment)

Description: Set up the event and welcome Daisies to the Leadership Center for Daisy Day. Aid in snack distribution and water breaks throughout the day.

Each YLT volunteer will be assigned to lead a small group of Daisy attendees. Adults will be present to help, but the youth leader will be in charge of helping the Daisies complete crafts, work together, and present their work.
