With so many new Daisy troops and new volunteers in the La Mesa Service Unit, we reached out to the GSSD Leaders and Volunteers Facebook group to gather tips for the 2023 Cookie Season. How can we encourage sales without overwhelming girls and their parents?
Here's what experienced Girl Scout Leaders and Volunteers had to say:
"Earn the cookie badges, set goals with the girls for both fun and learning experiences, and do things that are Girl Scout-y — camping, a fun workshop, family BBQ (since it takes a lot of support from families...)" - Robin
"Remind parents how to support the girls while still maintaining the underlying purpose that it should 'girl-led.'" - Jessica
"...Have a VERY clear plan (you communicate to parents) related to booth sales inventory." - Tamara
"Make your own signage, and use the program to practice math and marketing skills. Make sure girls practice their pitch. Teach them that not everyone will say yes and how to shake it off." - Robin
"We swapped out our daisies every 30 minutes at booths." - Stasi
"If you do booths, schedule girls for 1/2 hour shifts." - Bekah
"How much Daisies sell depends highly on their own family community which can be very big or very small. Thankfully, Daisy years can be done on a low budget. So, You don't want to burn them out before the later years when they are trying to save for big trips! Encourage families to enroll even if they only manage 10 boxes to grandma. They will get a t-shirt and sense of contribution. Remember, selling is often the parents choice at this point... give earned prizes in private." - Crystal
"Receipts. For. Every. Transaction." - Stasi
